Concepción is a city in northern Paraguay and capital of the Concepción Department. It lies on the Paraguay River.

Founded in the early twentieth century by Italian immigrants, the town prospered as a centre for the north of the country, exploiting the new wealth of the Gran Chaco, and a river port. The town was also a centre for the Paraguayan Civil War of 1948.

Concepción is a department of Paraguay. The capital is the city of Concepción.

The department is divided in 7 districts:

4. Loreto

5. San Carlos District

6. San Lázaro
